Guiding Lights Crisis Stabilization Center (GLIC) is a subsidiary of The Guidance Center. The center was originally established to provide services for persons experiencing mental health or substance abuse crises in Leavenworth, Atchison & Jefferson Counties. GLIC currently serves the counties of Atchison, Brown, Doniphan, Jackson, Jefferson, Leavenworth and Nemaha in Kansas.
Guiding Light’s goals are to serve as a resource to individuals and families preventing unnecessary hospitalization of persons who can benefit from community-based resources.
Areas of service:
- Sobering Services: withdrawal management with average stays of four to six hours. Allows client to become sober enough to make treatment decisions regarding drug/alcohol treatment.
- Crisis Observation: a supervised unit for stays of up to 23 hours. Observation room is a large room with a circle of recliners. Clients are not assigned a bed.
- Crisis Stabilization: Length of stay determined by crisis symptoms. Crisis services and medication evaluation, as needed. Clients will continue to be assessed until determined symptoms are stable and the client is able to discharge to a lower level of care. They will have a case manager and support staff working with them.

The Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) provides crisis intervention to community members dealing with a behavioral or mental health crisis. MCRT responds to adults and youth in crisis, over the phone, via telehealth or in-person, in order to reduce emergency room visits and ensure everyone receives the proper care. We provide crisis intervention, referrals, and follow up services.

Our Services
Outpatient Services
Clinical assessments and therapy services are provided by Kansas licensed mental health professionals with training in psychology, clinical social work, marriage and family therapy and professional counseling.
Emergency Services
Emergency Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for clients requiring immediate behavioral health services.
Community Support Services (CSS)
The Center’s Community Support Services (CSS) program provides community-based service to adults with Serious and Persistant Mental Illness (SPMI).
Community Based Services (CBS)
The Center’s Community Based Services (CBS) program provides intensive community-based services to youth suffering from Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED).
Recovery Services
The Guidance Center is licensed by the State of Kansas to provide outpatient treatment services, including alcohol and drug evaluation, treatment, education and relapse prevention for adults and adolescents.
Psychiatry Services
The Guidance Center’s Medical Director is Board certified in Child and Adult Psychiatry.
